Attachment DeletedHello, My name is Beth, I am 34 years old. I live in Mississippi with my husband of 15 years, a male and female chihuahua, a female boxer , sun conure and two female guinea pigs. I have had the girls over a year and Love them so much. Gidget and Gemini are currently housed in a 30 x 78 in x 9 inch sides c & c cage. Its about a 2 x 6 on a two grid high stand. I purchased Gidget at petco over a year ago in january, Then after much reserch on the internet I learned alot and in March went back to get Gemini at petco. I know I should have rescued when I got Gemini but There arent any rescues close. It was either get a petstore pig or let my gidget live alone. My piggies have always been healthy and happy but I now support rescue only. I am currently a memeber of Guineapigcages.com but wanted another forum to join.

Thanks everyone, I am glad to find a forum thats not so stuffy. I got critizied for making a water bottle cover on another gp forum. They took it way overboard and almost pulled the thread. Said that she (owner) did not encourage them because life gets busy and you cant see water bottle level. Well I think if your too lazy to pull off the cover to see how much water is in the bottle dont have one. Common sense. Even if we have an emergency I take care of my animals before we leave. I just think she was trying to pick a fight. I have a morning routine, first thing I do is feed water all animals as soon as I get up. okay rant over sorry... thanks again.

It's ok beth, it is a sad reality that many forums have gone down hill and will only talk about certain topics and unless it is done to one persons suspithic way then they do not want to hear about it. I think it is so sad as people lose the amazing experience of having many different people giving their advice and experience from different backgrounds, for example rescues can learn from breeders as well as breeders from rescues but you will find many rescue forums will not even tolerate a breeder on the forum which is very sad, same as pet owners can teach breeders things and rescues we all learn from each other and actually when you think about it, it is so sad that we all have the same passion but some people/forums can still not come to understand this and so do not want anything to do with anyone who has a different view from them... Luckily everyone here is kind and will give help and advice before degrading people for something they are not sure of or haven't had much experience in. Also Beth I completely agree with you that it doesn't matter if you cannot see the water level if you clean/change water every day and check water when you are near the cage what difference does it make? It is just lazy to not be bothered to pull a bottle cover off. At the end of the day it is their loss because we have you now!

At the end of the day it is their loss because we have you now! aww thanks, I totally agree, Just because a person has their own view/ oppinion should not mean they cant speak their mind. Just because you dont agree with someone doesnt mean your wrong or they are either. In fact, If that person is doing something that you dont agree with, you can give advice or your opinion in a nice respective manner. People are going to do what they want anyways, Most you can do is try and educate them and help them. I dont think breeding is a bad thing as long as you do it the right way by not over breeding or breeding young sows. Take care of the cavies and be responsible and sell to responsible people as much as you can. thats just my oppinion. I have had three litters of boxer puppies (boy that was an expierence) and helped my mother in law raise chihuahuas. I could not explain to you the joy I got out of the having them. It didnt come without a cost and its time consuming to do it right. I also like rescue, their are so many piggies who have owners who are uneducated or iresponsible (some craiglist piggies). I try to talk to be when I go to pet stores if they are looking at the piggies or I over hear a conversation. You just have to do what you can to try and help people. Pet stores will always have animals so people closed minded oppinions wont change that. If that animal is not being treated right, I dont see why you can help one animal have a good life. You not buying one animal because its supporting breeders and you dont agree with breeding isnt going to stop pet stores or breeders all over america, uk ect. So why punish that animal when it could have a better life. there is always two sides to a story.

Very true beth; I have also always said breeding is not for just anyone if you do it right then it is very time consuming and takes a lot of money and devotion. On top of that people who breed tend to always have a passion for their animals and have to deal with the good and the bad and the least thing a good breeder would want it to throw their pigs/animals onto anyone without being sure that they have the ability to look after them properly. I too am like you I have no problem with any rescues/breeders/exhibitors/pet owners as long as it is done right with no lack of care for the cavies/ animals in question.

Hi Beth,
Your girls are too cute. I really like what you said about helping out a animal despite it being from a pet store. Thats how I feel about Monticello. He didnt come from a rescue but I certainly saved him from a lonely life at pet smart. I mean they had him in a cage on his own. I really want to do a rescue for my next pig but I dont see why that should limit me. Welcome to our forum by the way. ;D
