My husband and I just adopted two juvenile guinea pigs two weeks ago Puddin' and Sir Pig of New Guinea... or Sirpig . We have been diligent with our preparation and care, but it seems like Sir Pig has developed what we think is a fungal infection based on research. He has an appointment with the vet on Saturday, but I want to know if there is any advice on care to help him out until then.
Main questions
1. Can we keep the two pigs together? Or will the fungus spread?
2. I've read that I should request for him to be treated for mites as well as fungus as they look relatively similar.
3. Is there anything I can use now to keep the area from spreading... right now he has a quarter sized black spot on his hind quarter.

Hi, as your 2 Boys already live together i wouldn't separate them but treat both pigs as fungal is quite contagious. I dip the entire pig in imaverol dip 3 times, a week to 10 days apart. This or an anti fungal shampoo like anigene works really well. I am sure your vet will prescribe something similar. In the mean time you can use an anti fungal cream like daktarin or canestan on the affected area 3 times a day ( i am in u.k) Be sure to disenfect the cage/accessories and always wash your hands after handling! Good luck!

Clean your cage with a vinegar/water solution, I would also clean their cage a bit more often as well till its gone. hot water and vinegar in the wash.
