So I just got two 2week old guinea pigs lat week. They will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. I would've never got them so young but, they were a gift. I've never owed a guinea pig and am learning lots. I wanted these 2 precious creatures and feel so blessed to have them in my life. Currently I have them on a premium brand food, Timothy hay, and of course water. They don't drink from the water bottle bc at the pet store they only had dishes... Hope I can convert them somehow. I was told by the shop owner not to give them any fruits or veggies until they are a yr old or they may get sick and die. I worry about them all the time. Any advise, tips, or tricks are welcome...

Hello and welcome to the forum Firstly i must say these pups are too young to be away from their mother, let alone be sold on. They should be kept with their mum until 3/4 weeks old, sometimes even 5 weeks. The pet store should be reported for selling underage animals!! It sounds like the shop owner needs to do his own research!! Please DO feed them fruits and veggies along side pellets, hay and provide fresh water. Guinea pigs can and do eat veggies from days old!! Take a look here for a list of veggies/fruits - klccavies.weebly.com/cavy-safe-foods.html the veggies/fruits are so important. Do you know how much they weigh? Being so young i would put some bread soaked in goats or evaporated milk in the cage, if they dont take to this try making a porridge using porridge oats, goats milk etc and place it in the cage warmed. Welcome again Any questions ask away Kayleigh

Welcome to the forum!
As Kayleigh said, your piggies are very young and not fully weaned before you got them so boosting their food will help them grow and develop well. They definitely need veggies. Guinea pigs can't produce their own vitamin C (just like us humans) so a varied diet of fresh vegetables will keep them healthy. It's also good way to bond with your pigs and it will keep them entertained.
