Hello fellow cavy lovers! My name is Brooke, I'm 28, and I have three kids.. Michael (stepson) is 8, Kayden is 7, and Emilie is almost 2 I've always grown up with all sorts of animals as pets.. my family bred champion show dogs for most of my young life (german shepherds and Australian cattle dogs, mostly). My mom, eldest sister, and I also do dog obedience training, and we all either currently or previously worked as veterinary technicians. Currently I am a full time nursing student, but I remain a registered foster with our local humane society and animal shelter. In the past I have bred/raised pet and show quality rabbits and rats. I have owned guinea pigs before, but that was over 10 years ago now (that makes me feel old, haha). Anyhow, my son (Kayden) has been begging me for pigs for almost a full year now. Recently I decided that he was responsible enough to take on a pet of his own, so we welcomed two pigs into our family. (I'll try to post photos at the end of the thread).
Peter Parker - We happened upon Peter rather randomly. We were shopping for our guinea pig items at a local pet store (I wanted everything to be set up and ready before we even searched for pigs) and a store associate came up and asked if we needed help. As my son was telling how he was getting pigs, she asked where we were getting them from. This is where I was expecting the typical sales pitch, and I was not keen on hearing it, as I knew we'd be going to a rescue as our first option. However, she was telling us that one of the females they received had delivered babies, and because the babies weren't in their system, they couldn't be sold. They couldn't only be adopted out. Then she mentioned how she had one baby left, a 6 week old male, sitting lonely in the cage in the back. Let me just say.. it's nearly impossible to turn down a lonely baby pig who needs a home once he's already in your arms and cuddling. So Peter Parker came home with us! He's now 2 1/2 months old and the sweetest pig I have ever met.. such a love! I think he's a tri-color (I could be wrong.. I'm not great with identifying colors/patterns) as he has red, light chocolate and white. ((There will shortly be a post in the breeding section on how we think Peter Parker may be pregnant *facepalm*))
Harry Osbourne - After we had Peter at home, we still were looking for another pig because we knew they would do better as a pair. Harry came from a litter born in rescue, he was 8 weeks old when we brought him home, though he's always been on the small side. I think he is a silver agouti.. he has a shiny silvery grey coat and a white blaze. He is now 3 months old, a little on the skittish side, but once he's in your lap he's a cuddler and he is hilariously animated.
So that's that, I guess, for introductions.. If there's anything else you'd like to know about us, I'm open! Like I said, I'll try to add photos, hopefully that works! lol Hoping to meet some cavy friends and look at lots of cute piggy pictures!
