2 days ago I realized that Peanut had a swollen, squinty eye. I took her to the 24 hour clinic and they thought her eye may have ruptured. She was transferred to a small animal vet who thought it might be a partial (rather that full) rupture or just a very deep scratch. She recommended oral antibiotics (Enrofloxacin), antibiotic eyedrops, and Metacam. Poor Peanut's eye is blue and cloudy, but she seems to be acting pretty normal. She still has a very healthy appetite and loves taking her medication (it smells like Pina Colada!). I'm getting her rechecked on Friday, and her eye seems to have started healing. One question I have is: I separated Peanut from her daughter because I didn't want her to re injure her eye and I also wanted to be able to gauge how much she was eating and drinking. How long should I keep them apart? Does anyone had any insight on reintroducing guinea pigs after an illness or injury? Her daughter is very submissive, so I don't know if this reintroduction will be a real problem, but I do worry about stressing Peanut out while she's not feeling well. Taking her medicine Poor baby at the emergency vet.

She's beautiful!
I've had quite a few eye injuries over the years. I've never separated the pigs because it's always been from hay pokes and not aggression, so I reckon you could put her back in now if she's eating and pooping okay.
If you're cleaning the cage anyway I'd say you could just put them straight in together. Keep an eye on them but they should be fine. How long have they been separated now?

Id put them back together as soon as you can. There was no reason to keep them apart.
The eye injury could well be a hay poke as Orlaith has said, iv had several this year already. Antibiotic eye drops (brolene) works wonders. Thankfully i had some fucithalmic cream left from the vets which is a eye injury cream/drop. After a few days it settles and heals.

They are back together and doing just fine. The eye is looking a lot better too. I'm glad to know it was probably just a hay poke. Thanks for the help!

A quick update! Peanut went in for her final eye exam. The eye is completely healed now! I'm amazed at how quickly the eye healed. While Peanut was at the vet they found out that the molars on one side were overgrown and decided to trim them before they become a problem. Peanut was put under anesthesia for about 5 minutes and she was drowsy for a few minutes afterwards, but was acting completely normal by the time we got home from the vet. I wonder why only one side of molars would be overgrown? She definitely has enough stuff to chew on (cardboard boxes and tubes, wood, etc) and gets unlimited hay. She will be going back in for a checkup in a few month. Here is a picture of a very sleepy Peanut after her molar trimming. Brave little pig!
