Terra is now on antibiotics for bronchitis. The question I wanted to ask is if it is Because of allergies or asthma can guinea pigs take steroids such as prednisone or bronchodialators? I am curious because I want to help him if I can. I hope its just an infection and will clear up with the antibiotics. Any help would be appreciated.

I've had two piggies with COPD, which stands for chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder. What this means is that every so often they get raspy, crackly chests that are not caused by infection but rather caused by allergy.
What usually triggers my guys is a change in hay or if I'm a few days late doing the full clean. They have no other symptoms apart from the raspy chests.
I treat them with a steroid from the vet. It's called Colvasone, but others will probably work. The dose is something your vet can work out for you.
It works really well for them and relieves their symptoms within a few hours. The vet gives me a supply to have in the house so I can give it to them when it flares up. The course usually only lasts a few days and they don't need any when they're asymptomatic.
Hope that helps!

That helps a lot! Now I know there is something I can do for him if he gets wheezy and the antibiotics don't help, Its been cold here in Florida (well cold for us) and I noticed he got very wheezy then like someone with asthma. I hope its just something minor but at least I know there are options. Thank you Orlaith.
