Hi all, I hope you are okay. Minky-Noodle-Legs seems to be poorly.... Her eye is partially closing, her hair around the eye is damp/wet, it looks 'watery' and is a little crusty. My husband has just told me that she's making 'funny noises' when she breaths too. He also explained that her personality hasn't been affected though..... that she's still a little eating machine - that she's still eating her nuggets, hay, veggies, drinking water and bossing Karate-Kinky (her cage mate) around! Is this something we can help with or should we take her to the vet? Any advice would be gratefully received. thanks Jo xxxxx

Hi
I would take her straight to the vets. If she has a chest infection, they can progress really quickly, it is best to get her checked out.

Hi! I don't know much about guinea pig illnesses. We have had Jerry for 3 yrs now & we're fortunate because he's never been ill. With that being said, if it were my guinea pig, I would take it to the vet ASAP! You don't want to take chances when it comes to the health of your pets, no matter what species they are.

Is there any debris in her eye? That's the first thing to check. Pull the eyelids away gently and see if there's a bit of hay stuck in there, or perhaps there could be a scratch right on the eyeball. Any sign of cloudiness in the eye or a blue sheen? Those are good indicators of eye injury. Usually they heal up pretty well.
As for the chestiness, have you recently changed bedding or done anything that could be irritating her chest?
