Hi, We just joined also. We have a question…We just recently purchased a lovable Guinea Pig "Kiwi" for our daughter…after some research we learned that they are happier in pairs. So we purchased another Guinea pig "Perriwinkle"…and a larger cage for them. We finally put them together on Monday..They are getting along OK…but they do not share the igloo. Is it best to add a separate igloo for each of them?? We really want them to bond and don't want two separate igloos to isolate themselves from each other or do they just need more time? Right now, who ever gets in the igloo first is the owner not allowing the other one in …any suggestions??

Indoor pigs don't necessarily need igloos. If you're providing them then make sure there's at least one each per pig (many pigs like their space when they sleep). Some people find that igloos make pigs more timid and shy so they take them out altogether. Those pigs are still able to snuggle in their hay and usually become much braver. It's up to you what you want to do

Thank you for the information. I didn't know they didn't even need igloos. Do you provide a soft bed for sleeping? I have seen ferret beds at the pet store but was not sure if they would use it. Any info is greatly appreciated…These are our first guinea pigs and we want to make them happy :-)

cavies, which is another name for guinea pigs, don't need a soft bed, they just sleep on the bedding you use. when they start squeaking and pop corning, which is jumping, you will know they are happy.

Pigs are happy with whatever bedding you use. They like to snuggle up in piles of hay and if you provide a soft bed or a snuggle sac they will certainly use it and appreciate it! Just be sure you have enough for each pig so they don't fight over them.

If you got her the day before Easter then she would be due very very soon. Does she look pregnant? Post a pic in a new thread and you may get more advice that way
