So Karma and Harry were paired together about 4 weeks ago.. estimating due date around July 24. However when I was cleaning cages today I noticed she is HUGE! Like full dinner plate looking. So I picked her up and did a once over.. she has two big pouches, one on each side, and if I palpate gently I can feel at least one pup in each and even felt some movement within.
So now I'm a little concerned because I thought they didn't start showing for another week or so and she's quite big. (I'll try to get pictures tomorrow for reference) Is it possible for them to show earlier if they are having a large litter or maybe she was already pregnant when I got her? I have her set up by herself now because she was becoming increasingly annoyed with Kismet and since then she's been rearranging hay in her cage and looks like she's making a nest.. its quite cute really.
Another thing.. when I was looking her over today I felt a bump near her hip area on her rear end. She has a bit longer hair in the rear but once I pulled it back it looks like maybe she had an abscess that burst. The surrounding skin is not red and it looks like it's healing.. but the scab looks mostly like dried pus. I tried to gently scrape it away so I could clean it up but she squealed pretty loud and I didn't want to over stress her so I let it be. She's been tolerating warm rag soaks though so I'm trying to soften it up.
My exotics vet is out of town for at least the week and I don't trust any other vets in my area.. thoughts on what I can do? She doesn't act ill and aside from eating and drinking a ton and resting a bit more (normal pregnancy things) she's her usual self.
