I'm hoping to breed my Peruvians and have been planning and researching for months. I had my boar (unproven) in with two girls for around 6 weeks. I definitely saw some action during this time and made a note of it. After the 6 weeks I took the boar out leaving the two girls together. Just today, a couple of weeks since the boar was removed I noticed one of the girls acting like she was in season a lot. I thought maybe she didn't catch during those 6 weeks and popped her and the boar back together to see what would happen and sure enough after a few minutes he mounted her. Does this mean she definitely didn't get pregnant during the 6 weeks they were together? Do sows come into season and accept boars during pregnancy? I'm weighing both girls weekly and haven't seen any massive increases yet - would that be rare? I predicted they'd be about 5 weeks pregnant by now! I didn't realize this was going to be so difficult! Thanks in advance for any advice.

How long has the boar been out? He may not have caught either of them till the end, so if he's only separated a week then they'd only be a week along and you wouldn't see it.
It's also possible that they weren't caught. It's no unheard of for a boar to live with a sow for months before succeeding, it just depends on the boar and whether the sow will accept him. The only way to tell is to wait and see.

Thanks for replying. He's been out two weeks today. The definite action I saw was 5 weeks ago though. I'm wondering whether to put them all together again (it's the girls first litter so need to catch before they get too old) until I can definitely tell they are pregnant, or whether I should find a different boar. I really thought they'd catch if they were going to in that 6 weeks he was with them

I am expecting my first litters and I left the sows and boar together until I felt movement in their bellies. That way I could be sure, but they had noticeable bulges and weight gains before I felt any movement in there. I weigh mine weekly and the girls have been gaining anywhere from 60-100 grams a week. If I were you I'd leave them together until they had good weight gains and noticeable tummies. Sometimes it takes awhile, even if he's mounting them it doesn't mean he's succeeding.

Hi
I tend to leave boars with sows until im certain the sow is pregnant. Sows only come into season every 14/16 days and will only accept the boar for approx 2 hours. So there isnt a huge window to mate. Boars will however try to mate, mount and impress the sow through out. And once in season he will try and she should accept.
Sows do not come into season is pregnant no.
So in reality your boar only had 2/3 attempts to catch the sow during the period they were together.
