I was grooming my boar Bacon tonight and I noticed that he has ear mites. I'm pretty certain that is what it is. I was wondering how I can treat him at home? I would rather avoid paying high vet costs. I would appreciate any help you guys can offer me. Thank you

Okay, first, Bacon? Cute name! I am sorry but if you want the best care for Bacon, the vet is one of the best options. If don't have enough money for the vet, don't even bother getting a guinea pig. It's one of the responsibilities of being a pet owner. For now, just trim his nails so he won't scratch and bleed. Also, take a small Q-tip and get lukewarm water on it. Rub around the ear, but don't go deep inside the ear canal. this should help the itching. Other than that, go to the vet or check back here to see if someone with better ideas replies. Good luck!

I do have money for the vet... but would rather avoid paying the high cost that I know comes with taking him. If I can't treat him at home then I would take him to the vet for sure.
He's not scratching his ears at all and doesn't seem bothered by them.

Are you sure he doesnt just have dirty ears? Clean the ears out with salty warm water, if hes not scratching i doubt its ear mites as such.
I disagree vets arent always the best option, many things can be treated without vets intervention.

I cleaned his ears out with warm water and most of the stuff wiped out. He's still not scratching or anything. I dabbed coconut oil on the wax to help loosen it before I cleaned them out. It seemed to help. I think his ears were just dirty and I freaked out about bugs.. lol

Keep on checking on him. See if he gets worse or better.
