Hi not sure if I have done this already but here I am.
I reckon I joined this forum in a panic and headed straight for the pregnant page lol.
Anyway I have kept Guinea pigs for nearly 10 years, my Mum used to be a breeder too which really helps.
So I lost my last male Henry in January due to old age, I then decided to get two girls so they would be company for each other (Henry ended up living alone as he didn't get along with his previous friend).
My two girls were called Madge and Rosie
Madge is the brown and white Abyssinian and Rosie is the black and tan.
Anyway 6 weeks after getting them Rosie had to be put down due to her suffering badly with URI.
Madge didn't catch it thank goodness.
Anyway Madge was very upset at losing Rosie so it was a desperate search for her new sister. I contacted as many people as I could in the end it was another pet shop that helped me, I came home with Fudge
A couple of days after getting Fudge I noticed a scab behind her ear, a couple days later I took her to the vets for her well guinea check and the vet said that it could be ringworm, I decided to start treating her externally, she was losing fur from her ear, back and nose, I took her to vets for Itrafungol. This cleared it up but I noticed she seemed to be bloated? Then when I had her on my knee I felt THE FLUTTER I thought no how can this be, then for some reason I disregarded this and took her to the vets thinking that the Itrafungol had caused her to bloat. The vet said I need to take her for a scan, I thought no surely not. The vet came back in and said yep shes preggers and we had to careful because of the Itrafungol.
A week later she gave birth to 3 babies who were sexed a couple of days later, one boy and two girls.
Unfortunately it looked like Fudge had accidently bit the boys right foot off ,when giving birth to him and sadly he had to be put down.
Her baby girls are going to be 3 wheeks tomorrow, they are called Gizmo and Sapphire.
So Madge got more than she bargained for, not only did she gain one new sister but she gained 3. I am so proud of both Fudge and Madge they have both taken to family life so well.
Anyway I did take further action with the petshop in regards to Fudge, she should never of come to me in that state, it was a long haul but I did get some compo, a £50 voucher which was for their shop, so I bought lots of things for my 4 girls.
People are always wary of petshops, my theory is this can happen to anyone, I would like to think my girls have a good life now, they mean the world to me. I am so glad that Fudge did not go to some family with a kid for the kid to look after it! She probably would of still had ringworm.
I love my little family including my hamster Monty
