Hi, I'm new to the forum. Firstly, I have 2 guineapigs, Licorice and Pudding. they are both males. Licorice is 2, and Pudding is 1. They've always been the best of friends...up until now. I'm pet sitting some female guinea pigs for my friend, and their cage is on top of my males. It hasnt been a problem... up until now. All of a sudden Pudding is wanting to fight Licorice. He's chattering his teeth, and doing huge yawns. Is he going through puberty, all is it the females? For now they've got a divider through their cage. Any advice please? I'm desperate! Oh, and Licorice has just recovered from mites, if that's any help.

I would move the females as far away from your boys as possible. Some boys are fine with females nearby and others are not. Given that they got on well until the girls arrived, that's the most likely cause of the upset.

Iv never had any issues keeping sows and boars in the same room/area (separate cages)But sometimes it can cause an upset and i would be inclined to say that the sows have caused an upset with your boars.
Remove the sows if you can (across the room) and clean the boars cages out, bathe them then try reintroducing. Sometimes pigs do fall out, for what appears to be no reason, it happens.
Good luck

Boars often fight when there are females in the room. The males want to "get the girls". So they fight. The strongest gets the lady.
Move the cage away. Clean the boars cage and bathe the boars. Hope this help.

Thanks everyone, the sows are going back today, so I'll bathe them both and reintroduce them. Quick question: can you bathe them in winter?

As long as the house temp is 60-75 degrees (70-75 after bathing for 20 min.) and the water temperature is... I don't really know. Lukewarm. NOT HOT. Then it should be fine.

Thank you for the answer and pic:) the sows are gone now, but another problem has arisen unbeliebavly! Licorice has a crusty nose, would it be a URI infection? It's just that we spent heaps of money on treating his mites, and now this!!! Are there any home remedies that I can use? Poor little guy... Mites, girls, fighting, now this:(

Mite treatment shouldnt be expensive. Its a simple thing, ivermectin treatment.
As for a crusty nose, it could be a uri. if it is then you will need to seek the vets for treatment sadly. Do not bathe the pig if this is the case. Keep him warm and comfortable.
Good luck with the intro
