Hey guys my name is heather. I am new to guinea pigs so I hope you can help me! I just got a guinea pig a week ago. I was wondering if it is to soon to get another guinea pig so is he doesn't feel lonely when I'm not home. Also when I walk into the room near her cage she runs away. I am able to pick her up but she runs away when I go to pick her up. Is this normal? She's healthy but I just need advice on what to do to get her more used to me and not as scared. Thanks!

Hi
Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of guinea pigs.
Your pig is still new, and she will be overwhelmed with her new surrounding, smells etc. It takes time and patience for them to come around and relax. Getting a same sex friend is a great idea.
Talk to your pigs, feed them their favorite treats (grass, weeds, fruit, veg etc) to coax them around.
It can take months for them to become comfortable around us.

It's never too soon to get a piggy friend - I firmly believe that it's the fastest way to get a piggy settled, as well as giving them much needed companionship.
Pigs are naturally a bit scared, but talking to them and bribing them with treats will help them come around.
