I'm super new to this website so here goes. I have two piggies, Harrison who was around 1 year old when he passed, and Boo who should be somewhere between 2-3 years old. Both of them eat just about any veggie they are allowed to eat and here and there some fruit. They both eat twice a day, always have a full supply of Timothy hay, (Harrison still got alfalfa here and there) clean water, vitamins and Timothy hay Apple bisquit treats. Both males, (separate housing) both got playtime every other day, never had any other health problems besides an eye booger or two. Well, a few days ago I came in the room with dinner for them, and when I turned the lamp on I saw Harrison lying down (not in his bed) at the bottom of his cage. No wheeking, nothing! I immediately checked if he was breathing but could not tell at all. I could still feel his pulse, so I picked him up and noticed he felt almost flimsy, like he had no control over his body, I had to hold his head upright. Then he started showing signs that he was TRYING to breathe-about every minute it was one big gasp and that was it. I started doing light chest compressions and he was doing the gasping thing more as I did this. Even blew into his mouth to try to help him get some kind of air flow. I read that If they are choking, to hold them upside down and continue compressions and when I did so VERY GENTLY he began to seize. Worst night of my life! Harrison slowly gave up on the way to the animal hospital. I have so many questions, and I'm wondering if my Boo will be okay?? Harrison was so young and I just don't know what went wrong.

Aw, poor Harrison. That's such a sad story.
Some pigs die young for seemingly no reason. I've lost pigs myself at only two and three years old and they've seemed in perfect health beforehand. They can have little heart issues that we don't know about and I'd say this is what happened to Harrison.
I'm really sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry. That is so sad.
Sometimes it is something inside causing the problem, such as a heart or brain problem or a tumor of some kind. In these cases, little can be done.
