Pregnant?

I have a guinea pig that we think is pregnant. We've had her for about 6 weeks and believe that she got pregnant before we got her. We do have a boar in the same cage as her, but he is fixed. We also have another sow in the cage as well. Unfortunately, all of the pictures I have are to large to attach, so I am going to have to share links to them.

What do you guys think? She is about 7 months old now. Also, is there anything special that I need to do for her if she is pregnant? I have been making sure that she gets plenty of vitamin c rich veggies and have also been giving her some alfalfa hay once a day away from my other 2 piggies (they are a year old). She has gained 94 grams since the 18th, 54 grams was in the last week alone.

I should add that I did take her to the vet and he said that she was most likely pregnant, but I don't trust his reliability as he didn't even know what the gestation period for a guinea pig was.

It's very hard to tell. Do you know if she was housed with a male before you got her?

Some of the pics definitely show a little round belly but if she's been just growing out of her baby phase she would be gaining weight anyway. How old is she, approximately?

Pregnancy in guinea pigs lasts about 10 weeks and if there's only one or two small pups in there it can be hard to tell until eight weeks or later. If you place your hands gently on her sides can you feel anything moving around or kicking in there?

If she is pregnant then chances are she'll do a good job of the birth and everything by herself. You can help her by making sure she has a good diet and a nice variety of vegetables.

How long has your boar been neutered for? Since before you got him? Because boars can remain fertile for 6-8 weeks after neutering due to residual sperm. Just checking.

We don't know if she was housed with a male before we got her, but we think that it is highly possible, especially since the petstore where we got her didn't even know how to sex the piggies. We have vowed to never go back to that store for anything.

She is about 7 months old now. We've had her for about 6 to 6.5 weeks.

We had thought we felt moving, but weren't sure. Last night we are pretty sure we felt movement and are pretty sure we saw movement when she was sleeping. We hadn't been sure if what we thought were movements were just her breathing, but since she was sleeping when we saw the movement, we are now about 90% positive that she is pregnant.

Our boar was neutered before we got him. We've had him for about 5 weeks. The previous owner had gotten him fixed when they found out his sister was pregnant (she was about 5-6 weeks at earliest when they fixed him, they were also separated till about 2 weeks before we got them) and she had her litter about 6 weeks before we got her.

Okay. If she's pregnant then all you can do now is wait. Start having a think about what you'll do with the babies if/when they arrive.

I've read conflicting information about whether it's okay to leave a neutered male with a mother and her pups after she gives birth. Normally you would separate them as a sow can become pregnant as soon as she gives birth, but since your boy is neutered that's not an issue. However, I'm not 100% sure if males are generally okay with pups in that situation or if it would stress the mother out since the boar will still try to hump her, even though nothing is happening.

Thank you. We were hoping to keep them all together after the pups were born unless the other 2 started causing issues. We are also planning on possibly keeping the pups. I do have a friend that would be willing to adopt a boar as a companion to hers if one is born. If only sows are born, she is considering getting hers neutered (its a boar) so that she would be able to adopt one of my piggy's pups.
