Hi guys, I need some advice about Fudge.
She has had a pouch under her chin for about eighteen months or so, I understand this is quite normal for some pigs (looks a bit like a little fat double chin even though she is a healthy weight). Well tonight I noticed it's now quite big, I'm not sure if it's got bigger quickly or if I've just not noticed it, it doesn't seem to be bothering her or stopping her from eating but it is really large now, is this something to worth getting checked by the vet or is it completely normal??
Thanks for the help!

How does it feel? Is it soft or can you feel anything hard in it? One of my girls got an abscess there and I didn't notice for a while because she was quite fluffy and already had a double chin. It got drained and didn't bother her again.
There's a good chance that it's just normal double chin. They can seem quite large but they're not a sign of weight issues normally - they're a natural development that, in the wild, helps to protect their throats from being bitten by predators.
If it feels any way abnormal to you then take her to the vet but if it just feels like she's got a chubby chin then it's probably fine.

I just had a little feel of it and the whole thing feels quite hard, should it be soft?

I just had Fudge at the vets and she suspects the lump is a tumour, she took and aspirate to find out if it's cancerous or benign. Fingers crossed for a benign tumour! Once I get the results back I will think about whether or not to put her through surgery but I'm not stressing about that till I know if it's necessary.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I was away for the weekend.
Let's hope it's a benign tumour. Give Fudge some extra cuddles from me.

Keeping my fingers crossed. I have also noticed though that she seems to be picking food up then putting it down again rather than eating it (more with harder food like peppers), she's also scraping her teeth on her wood log house more than usual....could this be a tooth thing and the lump maybe an abscess??? Surely the vet would've known if it was an abscess when she took the needle biopsy?

It could be an abscess or perhaps the lump is preventing her being able to swallow properly. I know the lump my girl had was huge, the size of a satsuma or maybe a little bigger, and she wasn't able to eat properly. The vet tried to aspirate it with a needle and couldn't get anything out so she had a general anaesthetic and he drained and removed it.
If Fudge is having problems eating then I would be looking to your vet to remove it sooner rather than later as she'll get weak if she's not able to eat. Whether it's a tumour or an abscess, it'll have to come out if it's interfering with her quality of life. I would be looking for a course of antibiotics as well to take down any infection that might be in there.

My beautiful girl crossed the bridge last, she developed a rti and went quickly, I still have no idea if her lump was cancerous as the results aren't back till next week.
