Hello
I'm Emma and live in New Zealand! I have three wonderful guinea pigs called Sparkles, Ida and Myra. Sparkles is (neutered) male with a personality to match his name. He is the friendliest guinea pig I've ever had! In contrast, Ida (female) is the scared-est guinea pig I've ever seen. Myra (female) is sort of in-between, haha! I fell in love with guinea pigs when I was eight! My younger brother brought a reading book about pets home from school. When I saw the guinea pigs on one of the pages, I asked mum if I could have them. Of course she didn't say yes straight away! But long story short, I got guinea pigs.
Haha you could call it one of those split second *childish* decisions that change your life! But anyway, then I got my first pair. Ever since, I've never been without them.
From left to right- Myra, Ida and Sparkles.
Sparkles loves clicker training. You can see in my avatar ;-)
I actually came on here to ask if anyone has ever heard of a guinea pig being allergic to grass!!!
Myra seems to have cheliltis. Green scabs around the corner of her mouth; with fine powdery looking green stuff around the inside of her mouth. The vet prescribed some ointment which I rub around her mouth twice a day with a cotton swab. However, it seems to be fine in the morning, but while she is outside on the grass during the day, it seems to grow back! Because when when I bring her inside in the evening and check her mouth, the scabs are back and the green stuff has spread around her mouth again.
I phoned the vet earlier, and he said that perhaps she was allergic to something in the grass or the soil of the lawn! I've never heard of that before! I'm supposed to keep her off the grass, at least until her condition has healed up. I feel sorry for Sparkles and Ida because now they have to stay inside too! I don't want to separate them.
I couldn't help laughing when he suggested she was allergic... to grass!!!
Anyway, nice to be here! Looks like a nice forum--- my favorite color! ;-D
