Should I get a Long haired or Short haired piggy?
The answer is simple do you have the extra time to put in brushing a long haired cavy, wrapping if they are being showed or trimming the coat every 4 to 6 weeks if not being wrapped and shown? If not them don't get a long haired piggy.
Long haired piggies may need bathing or bum cleaning every couple of months where as short haired piggies shouldn't need bathing very often at all.
I think short haired piggies are better for the first time owners until they get more experienced.

I agree totally Dawn, if you don't want to spend the time grooming the long haired piggies one should not get same. I have raised the long haired cavies for ages and for me there is no other type...I just love them so the effort put into keeping their coats nice is a labor of love. Linda

Yes I agree too. My friend not long ago got 2 piggies. They are her first ever piggies. She wanted 2 baby piggies, not long-haired as she'd never owned piggies before. Now though, she's very happy with them, they are over twice the size that they were when she got them!

Both types are gorgeous, and while I have chosen the long haired breeds, because I'm a fan of long hair, I think its sometimes easier to see the short haired types sweet n cheeky character!
There is always a happy medium of the Abysinnian?
