Bianca had her 4 babies this evening while I was filling hay racks and water bottles. Why the sad face on the post you might ask, well they came so quickly she didn't have time to remove the sacks so two of them suffocated I realised she/they were in trouble so I stepped. Unfortunately I was too late to help two of them. I took off the sacks and tried to revive them but it was no use they were already dead I did manage to revive two of them and warm them up however. I am so totally gutted that I couldn't save them all but glad I managed to save two of them. There were 3 boars and a sow. I lost the sow (cream) and one of the boars a lovely lilac Poor Bianca was so exhausted she could hardly clean herself so I helped her by cleaning up the babies and dried them with a hairdryer and then put them beside her and let them settle for a while. I went back in a few hours later to just check on them and they were all snuggled up together and seemed fine. I will take pics tomorrow and weigh them etc. Dawn

I hate that when it happens, it's like all those 10 weeks of work and anticipation thrown down the drain. I have a Texel sow that is expecting and I put her right near my bed, so I will have the greatest chance of being their when she gives birth. I think it is such a silly reason for a baby or litter to die, the mother simply does not clean the babies face, does not even have to do the whole body...Lol I will stop now! You are lucky you saved 2 and didn't lose the entire litter!!! Good luck with them Dawn!

Yes it is sad that I lost two of them so tragically but the two little ones are doing well and Bianca is looking after them so hopefully they will be ok. I sure hope so, I will get some pics later, they are very sweet.
