I have noticed that in one of my pigs wee is some red which I am asuming is blood. I don't know which of them it is. I have separated them for now to see who it is. Does anyone know what this might be?
Rachel PS I will take the one to the vet when I find out which it is.

You will soon know which one it is because they will squeak when they pee. Usually a sign of bladder stones so they need vets soon. Very painful condition for them especially boys. My Rodney had them and he was only 6 months - vet had never seen stones in a piggy so young. Good luck!

It might not be stones Rach, Beth had this off and on for a while she was on baytril antibiotic and that cleared it up atfer a while.
Also it could be just what you are feeding them do you give them tomato, red pepper, lollo rosso lettuce or beetroot? Thes can cause their pee to turn red.
Let us know how you go wont you Rach? Dawn

no I have not given them any of those in a while. It does not hurt her when she wees. Right now there is a cat a stray cat meowing at our front door. I was out there for about 30 minutes petting in and giving it water. It's a really sweet cat and it thinks our house is it's house. It's not even funny how hard it was to get IN the house my own house after petting the cat. We want it to go back to it's own home and I opened the wood door and left the screen door closed and let the dog in to try and scare it off and tanzer was barking and barking and the cat goes meow. ... Not the smartest cat.

oh and so far I've separated the pigs. And given them carrots hay and pellets and water. I've changed out a few pieces of their vetbed to keep it cleaner I've researched what it could be and we've been looking for the best vet we can find.

The crucial symptom is the blood, not the sounds when peeing, so don't dismiss a bladder infection if none of the squeak. Lottie has had 2 or 3 UTIs this year and never has she squeaked when peeing.
I would lay off the carrots to be honest, Rach. Swap them with cucumber, pepper or something else. When the pigs get bladder infections I always reduce the calcium in the diet, so very little or no carrot, parsley, spinach and kale from then on. You don't want excess calcium building up in an inflamed bladder.

yes I haven't given carrots for about a week except a couple carrot shreds in the lettuce and it's clearing up.

Yes she has finished with her antibiotics and is much better. I think I will give them some cranberry juice to flush everything out. They are getting more romaine now. No spinach at all because we have e. coli in our spinach right now and it is being taken of grocery store shelves.

Chips is weeing blood - but otherwise is eating and seeming quite happy but this week he has had curly kale and parsley and carrots - could this be the cause! The vets are shut today and I can't get him there until tomorrow - he is 4 1/2 now could this be stones or UTI. I am now in a panick. Karen

I would say it is most likely to be a UTI, so get him off to the vets on Monday, all he needs is probably a course of Baytril.
Keep us posted wont you? Dawn
