I have just found this on the internet, and have not tried it myself , so please approach the information with open eyes and curious mind! www.petherbs.co.uk/inkidneystones.htmlIts a chinese herbal alternative therapy website for animals , and appears to include guinea pigs This is a bit about what kidney stones are and how they appear www.petherbs.co.uk/inkidneystones.htmlI wish I'd found this sooner, I might have tried it with Farley, although if he had a tumour this would not have helped Vets do seem to only offer a big operation, what if this treatment worked , and an op became unnecessary ? jessegee

Oh Jessee this is very interesting because as you know I lost a piggy a while back due to stone. She had an op which didn't work.
I think I am going to use some of this info to do a thread about them do you mind?

Oh yes Dawn , I remember,, thats so sad to lose a guinea to this I wish we had found it sooner, its so sad to lose a guinea to this,
I'd be pleased to try this myself on Timba, as a while ago I noticed he had a bit of crystal deposit around him willy, so I cut out carrots for a while and fed more dandy leaves and he hasnt had it since, but his urine is still slightly milky, and I know its not an infection because I tested it with a stick
I know cider vinegar is supposed to clear calcified depositis in humans joints etc , a good test to show how it does this is to put a raw whole egg in a cup of cider vinegar for two days, the shell disolves leaving the inner egg in tact in its membrane
Its perhaps a bit rich for a guineas tummy though, nasty tasting stuff ugh!

Well depends on the piggy some will take tablets whole but most I think it would have to be crushed either sprinkled on food or mixed with water and syringed in Dawn

Its some weeks since I did this post, and glad to say it has worked and Timba is on top form. He began to have blood stain too, but it has disappeared from his pee, and he is bouncy and happy We began with tablets crushed in my coffee bean grinder, then mixed in a teaspoon with some aloe vera, and given with a 1ml syringe, but he must know its good for him as he takes the half tablet straight from my hand now jessegee

Thanks Dawn, I'll keep on with it on a maintenance dose to keep the problem in check. I think I may have fed to much rich veg like spinach over the winter, perhaps that brought it on.

That's very interesting jessegee. I've found with my cystitis-prone pigs, I have to permanently limit the high calcium veggies - carrot, spinach, kale, and parsley. I also use filtered water as I'm in a hard-water area - the improvement just by switching to filtered water was instant (and it takes much better!) and allows me to feed Science Selective (alfalfa based) pellets without effect.
Am very interested in hearing more about alternative herbal medicines though so ill have a good read through the site. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Just to let you all know, I'm trialling the Eurologist tablets with 2 of my 3 piggies at the moment. They have all been struggling with ongoing urinary problems for over a year now. I have Holly on half a tablet twice a day, and Cassie on a whole one twice a day. The good thing is that they love them, and crunch them up like sweeties!
Will report back when I have news!

Hello everyone. One of my piggies, Charlie, had been diagnosed with bladder stone over a month ago so when I started to do a research for a remedy online I found this website. I bought the Lysium pills and he was getting an exact dose of 300mg twice a day for over a month but he died this past Monday. According to petherbs.co.uk it takes 1-6 months to see any improvements. Now I am a firm believer that this is a time wasted! I would strongly suggest to not wait and see a vet instead. Unfortunately I found this treatment absolutely ineffective. I wish I have opted for the operation! I can’t turn back time but I hope that other cavy owners will stick to the conventional medicine.
