Tomorrow evening I am taking Roxy to see Gina of CCT (Cambridge Cavy Trust) because I noticed for a while now she hasn't been herself and for a few days she has had trouble eating. She is trying to eat but then drops it and when she does manage to get it into her mouth she slobbers a lot.
I have been syringe feeding her all day today so hopefully that will help her get her strength up.
Gina will see to her teeth without having to put her under anesthetic which can be a risk.
We have to travel quite a long way but it will be well worth it to see her back to her normal ways of scoffing away and getting back to her chubby happy self.
I will keep you all updated on her progress.

She hasn't pooped properly all day today so I hope she is going to be ok. I have been feeding her every two hours with Science Recovery. Only a few more hours now before we see Gina.

How long of a drive is that?
Poor little Roxy! Can you tell if there's anything wrong by just looking at her teeth or is it something you can't see? I hope little (well, big) Roxy is feeling better soon!

I hope they sort her out for you Dawn. But don't forget Tish is my heaviest sow so piggies can cope quite well without their incisors if need be.

Gina was so nice she managed to trim Roxy's teeth and give her some ant-inflammatory tablet because she has an infection in her gum. Gina said they weren't too overgrown but had started to curl over her tongue and were rubbing on it which was obviously causing her distress and pain. Roxy was such a good girl, she even gave Gina a quick lick on the nose when she told her how good she had been I have to give her baytril 0.3ml per day for 10 days and also 0.5ml Daktarin Oral Gel for a few days (which I already had in luckily) I also need to give her painkillers. Gina said I will still need to syringe feed her for a few days until she gets back into eating properly by herself but hopefully now she will be ok once the swelling from the infection has gone down. Aww bless, I hope all the medication kicks in quickly so she feels more comfortable. The long journey will be all worth it when she is back to her normal self.
Fingers crossed she will be feeling quite a bit better tommorrow

Well she is still not eating on her own, she trys bless her but she can't seem to manage it so I am syringe feeding her every 2 hours, she has to have her medicine too poor little thing. She is so good though. I hope she will start eating by herself soon but Gina did say it might take a few days.

I'm glad she seems to be doing well. If you mash down her pellets with a bit of water she might be able to manage to eat off a spoon and then use less water each day till she's eating solids. (Its like having babies isn't it!)

Yes it may just take her a few days to get used to the feeling of normal teeth again. I know what it feels like to have sore gums and hurting teeth. I've had many mouth surgeries. Sending more hugs and kisses!

Yes she is but still not back to her usual self. I never dreamed I would ever be trying to get food into Roxy. She was my greediest piggy always eating, it's so hard to so her suffering.

Well I think we will have to go back to Gina soon. Roxy is still only eating on one side of her moouth as the other is still very swollen. I am still feeding her as she can only nibble bits on her own. Gina said she might have to come back before the infection clears up. So far she has stuck at 2lb 7oz with me helping her feed so at least she isn't loosing any weight even if she isn't gaining any.

Well Roxy was at the vets last night because the swelling wasn't going down it was getting bigger and her teeth had overgrown again. Gina couldn't help this time so she had to have an op to drain the abscess. I wasn't happy but it had to be done so I left her at the vets for them to operate the next day. I was on pins all morning waiting for them to ring with news. At 2.30pm as I was at a show Paul (hubby) rang up for me and they said she was out of the operation and recovering so we could pick her up later. Paul brought her home at 3.30pm and she rested in her hut until I arrived home at 6pm. I gave her a huge cuddle and then broke down crying with relief to have her home. She is still very quite but has had some food which is great, hopefully now she will make a full recovery. Dawn

Roxy is not so good today. I took her back to the vet because she wont swallow the food I am syringing her, she just holds it in her mouth and he gave her an injection to try and stimulate her to eat. She has lost so much weight after her op to remove the abscess I am really afraid she isn't going to make it Dawn

Sadly I don't think she will. I can't get any food into her so she is slowly starving to death I feel so helpless. I really hope she will make it through tomorrow, if she does the vet will give her another injection tomorrow night which will hopefully stimulate her enough to start eating again. Dawn
