I have a piggy Cocoa who almost always has white dandruff in his hair on his rump. I have tried to get rid of it with shampoos and ivernectin but it never goes. Could it just be dandruff?

Dawn, it could be just dry skin. Some just seem to have that as a chronic problem. Next time you bathe him try to use a conditioner that has lanolin or sometimes I put a drop of baby old on the area in mention.... Sometimes that clears it up... Like people, they sometimes just have dry skin.... Hope that works for you... Linda

I agree. As I posted elsewhere, if you gently massage and brush around his rump the natural oils may moisturise his skin a little. It's worth a try.

Thanks Linda and Laura, I will try this when I next bathe him and let you know if it works. Dawn

Ivermectin sometimes dries the skin.
Manuka and Neem (GG of course) oil soak from the rump downwards would do him good and stop him washing it (if he can reach!) and becoming systemic.

I know this is an old post but Geri has a very flaky patch on her rear. The skin looks really healthy, there is no hair loss and she doesn't appear to scratch it. I'm sure its not mites cos none of the other 5 girls she lives with have it. I thought I might try a cradle cap baby shampoo cos that's what it looks like.....what do you think?

Good idea Josie I suppose it's worth a try. I use Polytar shampoo and that works for him Dawn

Marble had loss of fur around her rump in the spring. I bought some Lice n Easy from Gorgeous Guineas and bathed her with it and her fur returned. She has some small scabs on her right side but they are now going as I been using aloe vera gel every day. This is a treatment shampoo and bath every 3 to 4 weeks.

My Dale, had mites when we first got him, which was treated with Ivermectin. he still gets white flakes in the longer hair on his rump occasionally. I check him regularly, and he doesn't have hair loss, the ski is healthy etc. Like a lot of you have mentioned, I think some piggies get dry, flaky skin sometimes. I find Johnson's" tiny animal " shampoo very effective. Irene
