Just noticed when I got Cocoa out of his cage that one of his nails was off. Here are a few pics I don't know what to do it isn't bleeding but I don't want it to get infected

Sellabell ripped one of his completely out on a wire bottom cage ages ago. It finally grew back but for a while I didn't think it would. I used a small amount of antibiotic ointment on it. a VERY small amount and didn't let him down until it was absorbed as it can be dangerous if the ingest too much of it, when it first happened. However, if you keep it clean that isn't neccessary. Maybe soak it in warm salt water once a day to a few times a day to keep it clean and encourage healing.

Charlie did this back in January. He jumped into his then-pet-store cage and tore his nail right off. We stopped the bleeding by dipping his foot in finely ground coffee granules. We then bathed it gently with salt water and banadaged it up gently. The nail was still on at this stage, but only just.
He managed to wriggle out of the bandage overnight and the bandage took the nail with it. I bathed it a few times a day for about a week. He also went to the vets and had an injection to prevent infection and it took about 6 months to completely grow back.
I wouldn't worry about bandaging up Cocoa's paw - he'll only wriggle it off like Charlie did! Bathe in salt water a few times a day and see the vet - that's all you can do really.

Dawn, how is Cocoa's nail this am.... I have tried septic pencil on the nails when I have cut them too short but I don't know if that would work if there is no nail... The advice given about the salt bathes should work for you and keep out any infection.... Linda
