I have had a bad 2 days... BOTH my boys are unwell !! Dale spent the day in his pigloo yesterday, looking miserable, and didnt eat much.... I so hope he's not getting colic again !! Charlie seems uncomfortable down below, and has a little lump on his bottom.... Fortunately they are both drinking water. I am taking them to the vet, first appointment I can get today. I hope they will be ok.... Irene

Thanks everyone ! I have an appointment for 3.15pm with the vet, so will let you all know what he says... They are both drinking water, and Charlie is eating, but seems really uncomfortable. Dale is looking miserable, and his tummy is a bit bloated...
Dawn : Yes, I did wonder if Charlie has a bite. Will keep you all posted. Irene.x

Well, we saw Eamonn this afternoon. He says we got Dale to him early, and just as well. Looks like the start of colic again !! Eamonn gave him 2 injections.... he is drinking and making poops...so that is something positive...But his temp was raised....so have him on oral Baytril as well.. Charlie must have got a nip on his testicle ( poor little boy!)...so that;s caused a lit of swelling down there. Eamonn gave him a shot too. But what is worrying Eamonn a bit, is that apparently Charlie has an undescended right testicle...I had wondered about that, but though I was wrong...Eamonn says the problem with this is, that it could lead to Charlie developing a cancerous tumour, so we need to keep a close watch on him. Has anyone ever heard of this happening before ? I feel so sorry for my 2 babies !! Just hold thumbs and pray they'll be ok soon. I love them both so dearly. Irene.

Aww Irene poor Charlie & poor Dale, i do hope they'll both be feeling better soon As for an undescended testicle it's not uncommon in any male, any species & "can" lead to cancer tho' i've not had any experience of it with any of my males. As far as i know the only "cure" is castration. Niki x

Castration is an answer to an undescended testicle, but it isn't a straightforward operation. The undescended one lurks high up in the abdomen somewhere and it has to be searched for, found and removed. I don't think the problem invariably leads to cancer, and keeping a close eye on him will probably be the best solution. It sounds as though you know immediately if one of your boys is poorly, so you wouldn't leave him if you suspected a problem.

Thanks so much for your kind words everyone ! Fortunately our vet, Eamonn, is brilliant with cavies, so he will be keping a close watch on my piggies too. Just an update : Charlie is sitting on my lap wheeking happily, cos he can hear my daughter chopping veg. He is better today, but sits so lop-sided. He still seems sore down below....Eamonn is not keen to operate on him unless it becomes really necessary... Dale is also brighter today, although not eating much...He is drinking though and poops are looking more normal. He doesn't seem to have the pain he had when he had colic 2 mths ago. That was awful! so hopefully, we got him sorted in time. I know that I waffle on about these piggies, but they really are 2 of my very best friends, and I get so upset when they are not their happy selves. Irene.x

Irene
I find it such a worry when any of my pets are ill, much more so than when my son is ill. So I quite understand. I am glad they seemed have perked up a bit, hopefully that will progress as the meds kick in.
