Fudge Aimee's lovely Tort sow is very poorly tonight. I noticed her this morning with her head in the corner under the hay rack. I thought oh no what's up so I picked her up and she was floppy, she also had a very bad small that I noticed was diarrhea.
I gave her some baytril and some Kaolin and put her in one of the wooden huts to rest. I didn't want to separate her from her cage mates because sometimes that can do more harm than good.
When I arrived back from the mother in laws where we go every Sunday for tea she seemed a little better but I gave her some vitamin c and some osteocare because she looked like she was dragging her legs slightly.
I hadn't seen her eat all day so we cut some cucumber and she ate most of it which is great.
I then gave everyone some graze on and she trotted over to join in. I was so pleased to see her interested in food and I just hope she is going to be ok.
Will keep you posted on her progress but I am quite optimistic that she will be ok if she keeps eating.
Anyone have any idea what could be wrong with her?

Hmmm... I'm not sure what could be wrong with her. It sounds like it came on very quickly. I'm glad she's still interested in food though. Make sure you keep her hydrated as well.
Hope she's better soon! *hugs*

I had this a while back with Looby, found her with diarrhoea, no idea why. I gave her kaolin & probiotic & she was fine 2 days later back to her normal self. Hope Fudge continues to improve Niki x

Yes she is on the mend maybe it's a little bug hey Niki That'd be my guess, Dawn, a one off. Is she having probiotic? That should return the gut flora to normal Niki x

Hi Dawn - sorry to hear that Fudge has been ill, but also relieved she's on the mend again. I realise that you have LOADS more experience than I have with piggies, but my guess would be that she picked up a bug probably. Could it be possible that she ate mouldy veg etc ? Dale has a habit of burying pieces of veg ( almost like a dog with a bone ), and digging them up days later. Its awful, and I really have to check his cage every morning in between the weekly scrub-out. Fortunately he's never been sick, except the time last year when he was so ill with colic. Irene.xx

Yes Irene I think it might have been a bit of bad hay the bale my hubby picked up was awful ended up throwing most of it away Have told himt o check the bale before he buys it in future. That sort of hay may be ok for Horses but not for my piggies. Dawn

Too right, I wouldnt eat rotten hay, silly hubby lol! My mother is one for bargain food, I've lost count of the stomach upsets she's given me with her special treat recipes, I've learnt to ask how old it was before I risk it now..... jessegee
