yes i have heard of this, and have heard of two out breaks of it. This is very serious, i was due to go to a show at the weekend but darn't go now, i do not want my piggies getting this. It is passed around because it is airborne. Alot of forums will not talk about this because there is bitchiness going on, but people need to be aware about this horrible virus how are we ever going to feel safe about letting people in our sheds again, and what about the poor piggies we sell, i certainly dont want mine going to a home where it exsists. I am certain it isnt in my shed mainly because i havnt bought any new piggies for several months now, and have not been to a show for about three months and i would of had signs and deaths by now, but i am terrified for the future of every ones pigs. Every body please look into this virus as much as possible and take precautions, if people must go to shows makesure your pig or piggies are quarrenteened for at least 4 weeks afterwards away from the rest of your pigs.

July was the last show Julie and I attended Laura and we heard about this disease about a month after. The Welsh National Cavy Club had a show on the 8th September and we had the shedule arrive but decided against entering. Hopefully if this outbreak hasn't cleared up by November that will be another show we will have to miss and may have to wait till next March. it is better to be safe than sorry.

I had a few pigs with 'suspected' doses of this but they are all fine now, I treated my whole caviery as a precaution on my vets advice. Contrary to some rumours it is very treatable, the only problem is if you are in poor health yourself. Treatment is with a specific antibiotic called Doxycycline, for a course of 10 - 21 days (depending on which vet you speak to lol) It IS a very serious illness but please dont worry yourself ill over it, with proper care and caution and quarentining you should be safe. I have gone to shows and as long as everyone is aware of the problem and takes the proper precautions as were outlined in this months Cavies magazine our pigs should remain safe and well The main points are - If you have any pig showing any of the symptoms, quarentine, get them tested, and if the result is positive treat ALL cavies in your household
- Do not show or sell cavies if you have any pigs that are 'off colour'
- Follow good hygiene measures, both at shows and at home
- If any cavies do enter your home quarentine them for a month before letting them have any contact with your existing piggies
We can get this bacteria beat if we all work together and are aware of the symptoms Love Heather

Yes I did have a suspected case of chlamydia. I say suspected because I didn't actually have a test done but all the symptoms pointed to it.
I treat ALL of my piggies with Ornicure which is a forum of Doxycycline and I am now happy to say I am totally free of it.
I had 4 pigs tested at the vets just to make sure the treatment had worked last week and it came back negative.

The best one really is your vet, any of the others are 'home test kits' and designed for human use so I wouldnt exactly call them reliable. They may be good as a guide to say 'yes I have the infection maybe better go get it checked at the vet' but if it said no I would be wondering 'did I do it right' ' was the test kit ok' 'how do I know it worked properly'
Thats just me though
