Anyone tell me how common is it for a sow to push her uterus out after giving birth?, the reason I ask is that my other fox sow was due to litter and when I checked on her this afternoon,I found her in a bad way, I thought she had given birth to deformed babies and could'nt pass them as they were still attached to her, rushed her to the vet who saw her immediately and informed me that she had pushed her uterus out, like cows sometimes do,she had never seen this before in a pig,and was going to try and put it back if my sow became stable, and then operate to remove it,but I received a call saying she was going downhill fast, so I made the decision to have her pts,it was the only option. On my return from the vet I went to finish feeding and found that she had given birth to 2 babies, and as she was in with the other sow who littered last week,I'm hoping that this sow will feed them. I do hope so as they quite lovely and I would be gutted to lose them, but I'm so upset as I wish I had'nt bred from her,if I had'nt she would still be alive, so I feel that this is my fault.

I have had this happen my cream sow Poppy gave birth with my help to three huge stillborn babies late at night. I left her alone to rest and next morning at 6pm I checked on her and her uterus had fallen out and gone black. I took her to the vet as soon as they opened but it was too late and they had to Put her to sleep It does happen but I dont think it is too common. How big are the babies Sandra if they are big that is maybe what caused it her straining to get them out. I am sorry you lost your sow Sandra, RIP little Fox Sow Dawn

I have only ever bred two sows and haven't had this happen. Apart from Dawn and yourself (obviously!!) I hadn't heard of it happening to anyone else. Sorry for your loss.

The babies were not big,so I have no idea why this occured, she had cleaned them up, the other sow is feeding them so fingers crossed they are going to be ok.
