Today I picked up a rescued sow. She is 9 weeks old and was living with her mother and sisters. Upon examination I found that she has running lice, so she is currently in quarantine while I treat them. The problem is that she appears to be pining for her mother and sisters. On the way home she was pooping regularly. Since getting back home around half past two this afternoon she hasn't eaten or drank. She won't eat fresh veggies either.
I have therefore given her some fruit baby food which was reccomended to me by my vet. My questions are how often do I need to feed her? She isn't underweight and took about 1.5ml from the syringe at 7:45PM. Secondly, is there anything else I can do to help her? I do have sows for her to live with but don't want them to catch lice. I also quarantine all new pigs so I can ensure infections aren't spread, and I don't want to put my piggies' health at risk.
She seems lethargic and unwilling to move, but her eyes are bright and clear and she doesn't appear to be in pain. She just looks depressed.
Any advice or suggestions would be welcome!

Well I would sort out the lice first they could be making her feel down. I use Johnson's anti mite spray and I find that works really well. Then I would let her have some time to settle in and find her feet. If she isn't used to her surroundings it will all be strange to her and she might not feel safe enough to eat and act normally yet. Put some food, hay and water into her cage and then leave her be for a few hours in a nice quite place. I bet when you go back in she will have been out for a nibble of food. Once she has settled in a bit I am sure she will be fine.

I have Ivomec-ed her Dawn so hopefully that will sort her out. I have put her in a small cage with hay, food and water and some lettuce and covered her over. I will check again in a few hours. I hope she's alright Thank you for your help!

Most guineapigs are quiet for a few days when in a new home. I wouldn't worry about her not eating as you will find that in a day or two she will be eating everything that you give her. She won't come to any harm. Ivermec will get rid of mites, but the Johnsons spray is better for getting rid of running lice and static. www.delukemcavies.piczo.comwww.rons-runs.piczo.com

This morning Star is much the same. She is extremely floppy and doesn't want to move but her eyes are bright and she doesn't look 'ill', just depressed. I suspect she is very lonely but there's nothing I can do yet. The lice are mostly dead this morning, and I think she has the start of mites as well. No wonder she feels so ill! She has eaten a tiny piece of lettuce and some hay but no dried food or water. I have given her some baby food from the syringe which she loved and gave her about 2mls of water afterwards. She's settled back down for now. Tomorrow I hope to put her in with a foster mummy who will hopefully cheer her up. Please keep your fingers crossed for her

Oh I hope she is feeling better soon. I am sure she will be grateful to have a friend to keep her company.

Star also has the beginnings of mites which I am guessing is why she felt so poorly. She is now taking 10mls of baby food per feed and during the night ate a whole bowl of Wagg mix! She's been nibbling at cucumber but still won't drink. She's still floppy but a lot more livelier than before.
