I am a bit concerned about some of my pigs at the moment, they have developed bald bellies around their genitals. A couple are a bit crusty and two have scabby bits.
I at first thought it was my fat oldies just getting a bit worn but now it is happening to some of the younger ones too. I have given them all Ivermec but as I am not sure what it is I don't know if this will work.
Do you think there is anything else I could do?
I had another thought too but maybe I am wrong but anyway the shavings I have been using for the last few months have seemed damp do you think this could be causing this?

I honestly dont think its the shavings Dawn but cant be 100% sure . I think the shavings are different right now too but mines have a smell to them and they never had it before , i bet its cheeper wood they use now because of the credit crunch ? ? . I think this is the reason i have a fungal problem right now , and my pigs have not been getting the masses of veg they are used to since i needed a hysterectomy . I would think mange mites , different mites like different parts of the body . I think this warm humid weather has a lot to do with all the problems we are having right now . I used to only ivomec my pigs when i noticed any showing signs of mites but i think i will start to do them every 3 months as routine . hope you get to the bottom of it x

Thanks Celia, I certainly hope I can get them right with the Ivermec. I have none of the bad shavings left now so we will see if they get better.

Oh no, poor piggies! That is a strnage one isnt it? Could it have anything to do with strange weather conditions we seem to be having in this country at the moment? My Mum blames everything on the weather...ha ha!!!

My Mum blames everything on the weather...ha ha!!! Well I certainly think it might have contributed. I have two piggies that are much worse than the others Pegasus our lovely Swiss pet boar looks just like a skinny pig underneath I have been putting cream on to soothe his itch so hopefully that will help.

I have seen rabbits with hardly any fur left on their legs this year ( not mine thankfully ) . It was the first thing i said to its owner who sent me a pic of a rabbit she was trying to get me to rehome . The other was my friends daughters who got it from p@h rehoming centre , both had pink skin showing through . Its not the same as the Cheyletiella mites i think its mange mites because its attacking different parts of the body . Hope you get it sorted soon x
