I was studying this afternoon and heard a high pitched yelp from the caviary. Ran straight in and noticed Annabelle had got her claw caught in a thread from the towel covering the ramp and she was trying to run away. Got such a fright...Her back leg was being pulled backwards and upwards. I ran for a scissors and cut the thread. I dont know who got the bigger fright. She seemed fine thank God. There was no blood. Her claw isnt sticking out or anything and she can walk on it okay!
But i was thinking to myself what if no one was here or if we were away for a day. I thought my enclosure was safe but now im going to have to change things again. I will put a fleece on the ramp instead of a towel. Im not taking any chances. Im just glad she is okay... my poor baby!

It's so scary, thinking about what could happen if you're not there when something happens. Glad she's okay though. Eeep!

I'm glad that Annabelle is alright. It is frightening when something goes wrong as I know only too well.

I had this several times when I have my C&C in the diningroom with vetbed coverings. The vetbed would slip from the ramps and two fo my sows lost claws through this.
I hope she is ok now good job you were there to free her or she could have lost one of her nails through struggling to free herself.

Thanks Everyone, I have changed the towel to fleece now so hopefully it wont happen again. I know what you mean Dawn about material slipping down the ramp. Was thinking that could happen alright so i have 3 pegs at the top securing the fleece in place. The last time i brought the piggies to the vet, Eamonn told me that Lucy must have caught one of her nails because half of it was ripped off. I felt like such a bad mother because i dont know how it could have happened and i never noticed On the same visit as soon as he touched Annie all her hair started falling out when he was giving her a check up and he said i should brush her more often. She gets very stressed out going to the vet and her hair always comes out in big clumps. I brush her regularly but i must say i left the vet that day feeling like the worst owner in the world!!! Although on the up side i must be doing something right because he said they have the healthiest coats he has seen on a piggy! Anyway hopefully my 4 will be keeping out of trouble before their next visit or he might be reporting me to the DSPCA

Ah, you're making me nervous now! We're bringing our piggies to Eamonn for a checkup on Saturday (since the vet we tried here was a "special experience") and now I feel so pressurised to make sure they look well!

Hee hee...dont feel like that. He is a lovely man! He is so good with piggies and i dont think he was giving out to me. Im just not good with criticism no matter how constructive! He is also very fair with pricing. He only charges €30 to cut their nails and give them a check up. Let me know how ya get on! ;D

what a lucky pig , so glad you were there . You might find that she might limp on her leg after that because she would have been pulling on her muscles , if she does limp then just give her some rest and she will be fine .

Thanks Celia, I was sure she would be limping too but she actually wasnt! We were very lucky. Would hate if anything happened to her. She is my "special little piggy"... the subordinate of the herd so i always feel she should get some extra TLC!
