unfortunatley over the weekend benjis appetite has decreased again and he has only been managing his veggies, his eyes started with a discharge this morning so i took him to the vets, they believe it may be his upper teeth causing him a problem so he has to have an anaesthetic tomorrow and an x-ray. i know how bad piggies do under anaesthetic but its his only chance of working out whats wrong with him so i have agreed. please think of us and wish him luck tomorrow. i will let you all know how he goes on. thanks guys xxxx

Ring Vedra of the Cambridge Cavy Trust (CCT) Dawn she will be able to put you in touch with someone who can check Banji's teeth and trim them if need be without anasthetic. Her number is 07721026401

I bought some buccal pad separators from Vedra (cheek pad separators) it's an instrument to allow them to look into the back of their mouths without anaesthetic. Luckily i have never had to use them but would take them with me to the vets and insist they used them before using an anesthetic which should always be a last resort. I hope you have found someone who will do this for you. If not, i would be willing to lend them to you, i could post them and you could get them back to me when you're happy he's had all his treatment. They were expensive, so it would probably be recorded post both ways as they cost about £35 but i didn't mind paying that as i always want to have a fully stocked first aid kit. Let me know if you need me to do this, am off work at the moment so it's eaqsy enough to walk to post office.

I use a rodentologist in Derby too, in fact my little Jack is staying with her at the moment. If it is the same lady we go to then Benji should be fine as she's really really nice. Who knows maybe you might meet my little darling!

well we are back home now, louise found a little spur on benjis back tooth which she filed down apart from that she says he is fine, he was full of beans and back to his wrigglybum self so she had to wrap him in a towel (so cute) she used the buccal seperaters and a torch. she offered to keep benji and barney to syringe benji a few more times to help him gain weight but i said i would rather have him at home,so i have to feed him twice a day and let him do the rest himself. she even gave me some nice good quality pellets to mix with water to feed him. she said it sounds like i look after him well and if i need anymore help to just phone her,she was a really nice lady, and to top all this off she wouldnt let me give her any money!!!! i tried to give her some but she refused, twice!!!!! so there really are some nice people left in this world. and fingers crossed benji is going to put weight on fine and get back to the chubby boy he once was, he needs to gain about 4-5 ounces so not too far to go. dawn and benji xxxx

I'm glad that Benji's problem is hopefully sorted out now. Louise is great, isn't she? My Ruby had some dental work done there on Monday as she needs regular work done.

My piggies are usually fine after a trip to Louise's as well. It's only about 45 minutes for us to get there. Finding her has been a godsend for us and we've been going to her on and off for over seven years now.

So glad he's ok. Could you give more details about Louise and where she's based pleased? Like the name of the surgery i could gogle or something? It'd be great to know for future reference because if she's somewhere near Derby that's definitely do-able from Sheffield. Thanks

he seems like his usual self more tonight, but since he suddenly got so friendly its a bit hard to tell, he used to run off and i would have to chase him round the cage but now he comes to the front and lets me pick him up, even fell asleep on my chest tonight while eating some extra veggies!!! so i am struggling to tell if he is still under the weather or if he is just being friendly. weighing daily to keep an eye on his weight and it has been stable at 2lb 1oz for three days now, no gain but no loss.. he has actually turned into a right little sweetie with me, not too keen on my hubby but i suppose as it has been me doing all the weighing and syringing he has learnt to trust me. anyways will let you all know if theres any changes xxxx
