I noticed on Beth’s underneath the other day she had a sore on her vagina. I started to put some cream on it that I had called Calendula which was recommended by Petere Gurney on his illness pages as I thought it was just because she was in season and had been rubbing her bum along as they tend to do when it's her time of the month, but today she is very smelly and wet underneath.
I think she has cystitis again. I am a bit worried because this is the fourth time she has had it.
I wondered are some pigs prone to it or could it be something else?
I am off to the vet tomorrow to get her some baytril but I just wanted to ask your advice first.
Thanks Dawn

Yes I'd take her to the vet. You could ask for sulfatrim as that has a cherry flavor to it that Asia liked. I hope she is better soon! hugsX

Hiya Dawn
If I were you I would put her on Cranberry of Aloe Vera as a matter of course, just pop some in the water, that way it will keep things healthy in that area, since she seems susceptible to it

I have been speaking to one of the oher nurses at work about this as I was 100% certain, but she confirmed what I thougt when I asked. She thinks, and so I do that beth may need an X ray or a Scan to see if she has possible got bladder stones, are something alse that could be causing her to urinated alot. I really don't mean this to scare but Izzy kept urinating alot, it came and went. She had a prolapse which was caused by a truama growing very close to her bladder. She had an emergency spay and the truama removed. She is absoutly fine now, and is back to being as fit as fiddle.
It is worth asking if you can have an xray to see if she has stones are not.
I don't mean to worry, I want Beth to be Ok Kim

Thats OK Dawn. I hope little Beth gets better with antibiotics, keep us updated. I also read your other post, it is very naughty of your vet not to give you enough Antibiotics they should know better. If the vets at my new job are ever unsure on a dose they have to use the good old calculator and work it before giving the animals the medication.
I think even if you say you spilled it, you will have to pay for more i think.

Hope Beth is feeling a bit better?
It's a bit worrying eh, but Farleys UTI seems to have cleared up with the antibiotics and plenty of aloe vera
I have an aloe vera lip salve stick that I use on his bits now, as his willy looked sore, its a natural one, and helps it slide easily! ( I'm careful to put a bit onto a cutip first though so as not to contaminate the stick)

Awww I hope Beth is feeling a bit better Dawn. Do you feed a lot of carrots as I've heard that too many carrots are thought to contribute to stones so I've started limiting mine to a couple of times a week for treats rather than daily

I have never tried mine on Cranberries, so I don't know maybe I should try them as they are supposed to be very good for bladder problems aren't they?

I think they would make it! lol isn't it freezing there?
Yes cranberries are good for UTI's. I put some sugar free cranberry juice in the pigs water to flush their systems out of any unhealthy stuff. They didn't drink alot of their water though so I ended up syringing a bit of it diluted to each of them.

Hi Dawn, have just read about beths problem, if its cystitus we give a trimicare tablet to them which the vet can provide. if this is cystitus it will definatley clear her problem up. We give them a 1/4 of the tablet a day which last for 4 days. so by the time the tablet has been completly finished it should have gone. this always works with our pigs if they have cystitus. hope this helps Jean & Sophie

That alright your welcome, we think that Trimicare is faster than baytril as trimicare will clear it up in 4 days if it would be cystitus, so you will find out sooner if its cystitus as we have found that kidney stones can give the similar syptoms and if trimicare doesnt clear it up you know its not cystitus and something is going wrong Jean & Sophie

Thats what I thought it could be possible stones. You can get your guinea x-rayed or scanned to see if she does have stones and if she does the vet will operate and take them out. Someone told me as well fresh cranberry juice in the water is meant to be very good for them as well.
I have recently montiored an aneasthic for a guinea pig operation, she had stones as well. It was very different to the other operations I montior, I had another nurse help me as well as it was my first op on a small animal. She sid I did very well.

She is fine thanks Rach back to her usuall self hehe but now sadly Lily-Belle isn't so good hs has had diarohea yesterday which I managed to clear up with a dose of Kaolin but she has lost quite a bit of weight. vets checked her over but found nothing, no lumps or anything like that but prescribed her with a course of Baytril now So I get ojne piggy well and another gets sick. I am hopeing she will be better soon. She is still eating and drinking so that's a good sign. Kee your fingers crossed for her and keep her in your thoughts for s peedy recovery. I will let you know how she goes on, I am very worried about her. Dawn
