I'm worried about Purdy as she's not eating much. She hasn't touched her dry food or hay and when I gave her some cucumber and Romaine lettuce she just nibbled at it. She seems quite miserable too. We've rang the rodentologist and left a message but we're still waiting for a reply. I've started syringe feeding her. I'm hoping that it's nothing serious as I can't see any signs of anything being wrong with her and she was fine yesterday and ate all her veggies last night. She was like this in March last year and a course of Daktarin oral gel sorted her out so I'm hoping that it's just a mouth problem. I can't help worrying though.
If the rodentologist doesn't get back to us by tomorrow morning I think we'll have to take her to the vet.
She's almost 7 so I can't help being extra concerned by this.

I do hope that you manage to identify Purdys problem soon, it's so horrible when they are unwell and you just can't identify why. I am impressed that Purdy is almost 7 years old. I was curious when you said about contacting the rodentologist...where are they? I live in Derby and use a large vets practise who have a couple of vets who specialise in Guinea Pigs but I'd be interested to know about the rodentologist ? Sending lots of positive thoughts your way, Tracy

Thanks everyone. She's pretty quiet at the moment. No word from the rodentologist yet. I'm just really worried about her, she's so special to me.

Thanks Dawn. It's not easy feeding her as she really fights me and spits the feed out when she can. But I'm not going to let her beat me, she HAS to eat!

The little monkey keeps trying to eat the loo paper I use for wiping the syringe so at least she's showing interest in things. Typical that she'll eat toilet paper but not food. Piggies can be funny little things.

That is great news ... that must be a relief for you now to know she will be seen so soon.
I know exactly what you mean bout piggies eating things they shouldnt. Mine nibble on absolutely everything in their cage and then wont touch some treats and veg i get them!
Goodluck for tomorrow morning and i hope Purdy will be okay xx

Thanks Luna. I've almost finished giving her a feed and will let her rest after I weigh her. She's being quite feisty which is a good sign, I just hope she stays that way!

Thanks celia. I know I might lose her because she's an old lady but I have to do what I can.
This morning she's still miserable and is sitting in her wooden shelter all the time. Her poos are a bit soft and she's still not eating. I've bought some baby food as it's easier to get down her.

Thanks Dawn. She's still pretty miserable but is fighting me when I feed her so she's got strength in her. We go to see the rodentologist this afternoon at 4pm.

Thank you Luna. We're off in an hour. Purdy seems a bit better at the moment as she's lying down now instead of being all hunched up. I just want her well again!

We've got back from the rodentologist and Purdy had got overgrown molars and one was starting to cut into her tongue. So eating would have been very painful for her. I'm hoping that she starts to improve soon and that there's nothing else going on. I know I'm still going to worry about her until she starts eating again.

Im glad you found out what was bothering poor Purdy. That does indeed sound very painful. I know myself if i ever bite my tongue or get an ulcer etc it is really sore to eat or talk. I hope she starts to feel better soon and you get some food into her. I have my fingers crossed for her and hope she makes a full recovery ((((hugs)))) to you also as i know how worried you must be right now xx

Thank you Luna. It may take a few days for the pain to subside so I mustn't worry too much if she doesn't eat for herself just yet. It does help to know that there are people who really understand how worried we get when our babies are unwell. xx

I'm sorry to hear about Purdy & hope she starts eating soon. Did the rodentologist give any pain relief? I "think" you can put daktarin gel in her mouth to help healing, hopefully Dawn will be along to confirm this.

Thanks Dawn, Orlaith and celia. Yes, the rodentologist clipped her teeth and filed them. A little update: When I brought the piggies their veggies last night Purdy did show signs of interest and she ate a little bit of cucumber and the leafy parts of her romaine lettuce. This morning she's eaten almost all of a chunk of cucumber and when I checked on her a few minutes ago she was eating from her food bowl. I was so happy to see that! She still seems miserable in herself but at least she is improving.

Thats great news.... baby steps are good. At least she is showing interest again and actually eating on her own. I hope she continues to make progress. Id say she is a little fighter You must be so relieved!
